Stephen O’Byrne  

Stephen-OByrneStephen O’Byrne is a consultant and leading researcher on business unit performance, competitive pay analysis and incentive plan design. A member of the Board Advisory team, he’s also President and co-founder of Shareholders Value Advisors, a consulting firm that helps companies increase shareholder value through better performance measurement, incentive compensation and valuation analysis. Prior to founding Shareholder Value Advisors in 1998, Stephen was the head of the compensation consulting practice at Stern Stewart and Company, and a Principal at Towers Perrin.

Stephen, along with Professor David Young of INSEAD, has published numerous articles on the strength and cost-efficiency of top management incentives which have appeared in Harvard Business Review and the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance. Stephen is a member of the governance committee of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the National Association of Corporate Directors and World at Work, the professional association of compensation and benefits professionals. He has a BA in political science from the University of Chicago, an MS in mathematics from Northwestern University and a JD from the University of Chicago. He is a CPA and member of the Illinois Bar Association.
